The Sound of Silence from the National Media
American journalism continues to fail the citizenry
It wasn’t long ago that the American media was singularly focused.
A certain topic was in every magazine and newspaper.
The topic was: Is President Biden mentally competent to run for reelection?
There were editorials asking him to withdraw.
Questions about whether he should take a competency test.
It was inescapable. It became full fledge mania.
But then, the president withdrew from the race.
Leaving his 78-year-old opponent.
An opponent who is clearly, painfully mentally incompetent.
But where is the outcry about his competency?
Where are all the headlines, questions, and speculation?
Where are the front-page editorials calling him to withdraw from the race?
Oh, there are comments here and there, but not the prolonged, anguished handwringing that accompanied Biden’s candidacy.
The former president is a textbook example of mental freefall.
His answers to questions are what lawyers call “incompetent, irrelevant and immaterial.”
The sad thing is that this isn’t new.
He’s been saying weird things for a very, very long time.
“I could be the most popular person in Europe. I could be – I could run for any office if I wanted to, but I don’t want to.”- 2019
And you know, it’s not all about the rich countries, because the rich countries really do take advantage of us, because they pay a very small percentage of their military, and they cheat on trade.” – 2019
“The buck stops with everybody.”- 2019
"I never understood wind. You know, I know windmills very much. But they're manufactured tremendous — if you're into this — tremendous fumes. Gases are spewing into the atmosphere. You know we have a world, right? So the world is tiny compared to the universe. So tremendous, tremendous amount of fumes and everything. You talk about the carbon footprint — fumes are spewing into the air. Right? Spewing. Whether it's in China, Germany, it's going into the air. It's our air, their air, everything — right?"-2019
“Even one of them recently said that President Trump made promises, but he’s kept many more promises. I mean, far more than I made.”– 2018
"They wrote a story today, 'anonymous sources have said,' three anonymous sources, anonymous this, anonymous that, they don't use names. I don't really think they have any names, okay? But anonymous sources have said. There are no anonymous sources. You know, with my campaign, I'll be honest with you — it's me, it's me. They never called me. They don't call me. But these are the most dishonest people.” – 2016
“Oh you better elect me folks, I’ll never speak to you again. Can you imagine — can you imagine how badly I’ll feel if I spend all of that money, all of this energy, all of this time, and lost? I will never, ever forgive the people of Connecticut, I will never forgive the people of Florida and Pennsylvania and Ohio. But I love them anyway, we'll see. I think we're gonna do very well.” – 2016
And these quotes are Shakespearean compared to his latest word salads:
About childcare: "Well, I would do that, and we're sitting down — you know, I was, uh, — somebody — we had Sen. Marco Rubio, and my daughter Ivanka was so impactful on that issue. It's a very important issue, but I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I'm talking about, that — because — childcare is childcare. It's — couldn't — you know, it's something you have to have it in this country. You have to have it. But when you talk about those numbers compared to the kind of numbers that I'm talking about by taxing foreign nations at levels that they're not used to, but they'll get used to it very quickly, and it's not going to stop them from doing business with us but will have a very substantial tax when they send product into our country. Those numbers are so much bigger than any numbers that we're talking about, including childcare, that it's going to take care. We're going to have, I, I look forward to having no deficits within a fairly very short period of time coupled with the reductions that I told you about on waste and fraud and all of the other things that are going on in our country because I have to stay with childcare, I want to stay with childcare, but those numbers are small relative to the kind of economic numbers that I'm talking about, including growth. But growth also headed up by what the plan is that I just, uh, that I just told you about. We're gonna be taking in trillions of dollars and as much as childcare is talked about as being expensive, it's relatively speaking, not very expensive compared to the kind of numbers we will be taking in. We're gonna make this into an incredible country that can afford to take care of its people and then we'll worry about the rest of the world. Let's help other people. But we will take care of our country first, this is about America First. It's about Make America Great Again. We have to do it because right now we're a failing nation. So we'll take care of it."
He was never mentally competent enough, much less qualified, to be president. To say his reasoning and communication are obtuse is to confer order upon disorder.
But the media, which couldn’t stop talking about Biden’s competency, is quiet as the grave.
The American media has never been more incompetent.
Previously respected newspapers and magazines have whiffed on doing their duty.
There is no excuse for their lack of reporting on this topic.
The media should put as much energy in questioning the former president’s mental faculties as they did the current president.
Their refusal to do so says a lot.
None of it is good.
