The Real Victims of Racial Prejudice
Black conservatives frequently use victimization as a reason not to pursue racial justice, but in fact, they are the ones who live as victims.
As some Black conservatives defend the repressive actions of the Republican Party, they frequently give as a reason for their actions their concern that Black people seem themselves as “victims.”
Their apparent reasoning is that Blacks who support Critical Race Facts (not theory), protest against voter suppression, and similar forms of agitation are setting themselves up as a perpetually persecuted group. A group that will never be seen as viable members of society because they are always complaining about their lot in life.
However, the truth is that these particular Black conservatives are the actual victims.
The actions of these Black conservatives (excluding Colin Powell, Condolezza Rice, J.C. Watts and other Black conservatives who honestly acknowledge the existence of racism and prejudice) mimic those of abuse victims.
They deny the existence of abuse, despite the overwhelming evidence that the abuse exists.
They make incessant excuses for the actions of the abuser.
They possess an irrational belief that if they support the abuser and deny the existence of abuse, one day the abuse will end.
Those of us who recognize systemic racism and prejudice and who refuse to accept it are not victims.
We’re not malcontents, nor ne’er do wells.
We would rather deal with life as it is instead of living in a fantasy world where our oppressors are our benefactors.
Black conservative apologists can continue to accept abuse and prop up their abusers.
The rest of us will resist the abuse and our abusers.
