The Last Word Before the Big Day
Some random thoughts before election day:
· Voting is sacred. If it weren’t, so many wouldn’t do so much to make sure that only a few can do it
· The voting booth is sacred. No one has the right to force you to vote a certain way
· No one needs to know who you voted
· Vote according to your beliefs. Your candidate should align with your spiritual beliefs, and if not those, your moral and ethical beliefs. If they do not align, ask yourself why, and adjust your preference
· Before you vote, think of family, friends, and loved ones. If any of them are part of any legitimately disenfranchised group (non-White, non-straight, and immigrants), don’t vote against their interests
· Straight White men never have been nor never will be disenfranchised
· If you’re a man, think of the women in your life. Do you want your wife, daughters, sisters, and female friends to have your bodily autonomy?
· If you’re a woman, ask yourself if you are voting against your own self interests
· If a candidate’s actions do not align with their stated spiritual beliefs, ask yourself why
· The justification of evil for the sake of instituting spiritual beliefs as public policy is illogical, immoral, and hypocritical
· If you don’t understand why People of Color are not voting for your candidate, ask yourself why and don’t presume they are the ones who are misled
· If you want to preserve democracy, you can only vote for one candidate. If you want to institute fascism, you can only vote for one candidate
· Remember history, and know that candidate who stoke fear and hatred of other Americans do so as a means to an end, and they mean to put the “others” to an end
· True patriotism is voting for the good of the many, not the few
