At this point, if the Republican party made any moves that would reassure their commitment to maintaining our democratic republic, it would be a shock and a surprise.
Congressional Republican leadership coming out to oppose the formation of a January 6 investigative hearing is further proof that there is only one viable political party in America.
The other formerly viable party has completely caved into a defeated former president whose political base consists of intimidated career politicians.
People have been making comparisons to Hitler’s failed Bavarian coup d’etat and his eventual rise to power. It was horrible, but logical in a totalitarian kind of way.
This is fascism in reverse. Trump has no actual base of power, but has cowed his party to such an extent, his national defeat is seen as merely a blip.
His party is desperately trying to rig the system, rollback voting protection, replacing congressional party leaders who speak the truth, and trying to tell the populace that our eyes and ears were fooling us. We didn’t watch a violent riot at the US Capitol. We saw a bunch of high-spirited bunch tourists whose actions have been mischaracterized as rebellion.
The once proud party of Lincoln is no more.
The party that proudly touted itself as the advocates of law and order are actively promoting sedition and violent totalitarianism.
What more needs to happen before good people who have called themselves Republicans cash in?
How many more police officers have to die?
How much more blood needs to be shed?
How much more democracy needs to be destroyed before enough is enough?
