Today’s guilty verdicts were as Jemele Hill said “about accountability, not justice.”
That said, it is a day to rejoice and be glad that this was a day that God said,
“Enough.”
Today is a day when the scales of justice weren’t totally balanced but became more even.
Today is a day when the world still isn’t fair but seems fairer.
The world isn’t totally warm, but warmer.
Soon and very soon, Black and Brown people won’t be afraid of living their lives.
Soon and very soon, White law enforcement will treat Black and Brown people like human beings.
Soon and very soon, we will receive the same benefit of the doubt as our White brothers and sisters.
Soon and very soon, all men and women will be seen as created equal.
Soon and very soon, the moral arc will bend towards justice, and never again waver.
It may not be today, tomorrow, the next day, or next year,
Until that day, we must continue to press on and never surrender our right to live safely and decently.
Soon and very soon, we will overcome.
