Many people continue to proclaim, “You can be friends even if you have different political philosophies,” and “Don’t end friendships because of two people who don’t even know you.”
Ignore that talk, particularly if you are one of the disenfranchised.
This wasn’t a normal election.
Regardless of your political persuasion, there was a clear choice between common decency versus the worst of human impulses.
The worse impulses won.
These voters say they voted for the former president because of the economy, immigration, and other reasons.
The truth is they voted for him because he is White.
Race is the terrible filter that motivates a great deal of evil intent.
There are always excuses and justifications, but in the end, it was all about race.
In America, it always comes down to race.
When Obama ran, there were many White people who said, “He’s too inexperienced. He needs more time in office before he runs for the presidency.”
They said the same thing about Kamala Harris, questioning her vast qualifications and years of experience.
But when a White man who had NO POLITICAL EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER ran, he was immediately accepted as a viable candidate.
He was voted for by people who say he speaks for them and represents their values.
I don’t want these people for kinfolks, friends, associates, or neighbors.
As a Black man, I haven’t the energy, patience, or inclination to deal with people who support him.
I don’t need people like that in my life.
I might have to live in a world with people like that, but to the fullest extent possible, I will choose to separate myself from them.
When France used the guillotine for capital punishment, they called it the “National Razor.”
I’m using my keyboard and smart phone like razors to cut off certain people on social media, and I’m being intentional about removing these supporters of his from my immediate circle of friends and associates.
I don’t feel any guilt.
I don’t hate them, but I don’t want them in my life.
I will erect a border wall around myself like the border wall their candidate so often touted.
Black Americans have precious little peace in this country.
White people cannot comprehend the effort required for us to go about our daily lives.
The extra stress of this impending presidency, and the attitudes of the people who voted for him, are not welcomed.
We may not be able to shun the president, but we will shun his allies.
If you vote against my humanity, I have no remorse about removing you from my life.
You made your choice.
And I will make mine.

You are not alone. Many are deeply troubled and feel betrayed by people who claim to love and care about us but gladly threw us under the bus in favor of a crude, hateful, lying, fascist. It is the cruelty they seem to care about more than other human beings. This must be similar to what it felt like when Hitler gained power in Germany.
