No More Excuses for Manchin
The West Virginia Senator is undermining voting rights and God only knows why
I’ve tried to understand Joe Manchin. I’ve given it my best effort.
But now, I’m convinced that he’s the most useless member of Congress.
Yes, I’m from Georgia, home of Ms. Bats-in-the-Belfry Marjorie Taylor Greene. I also know about Lauren Boebert, Josh Hawley, and those fascist-loving, traitorous Republicans.
But at least, they are either clinically insane, members of the Flat Earth Society, or both.
Manchin doesn’t have the excuses of being crazy and reactionary.
Naive, foolish, and inexplicable seem closer to the truth in his case.
In an op-ed for the Charleston Gazette-Mail, Manchin said
“I believe that partisan voting legislation will destroy the already weakening binds of our democracy, and for that reason, I will vote against the For the People Act.”
So let me get this straight. Manchin isn’t support a law that will ensure equal voting rights for everyone, especially Black and other minority voters. These right are under siege in over 40 states as Republican governors and legislators attempt to rig the game.
He isn’t interested in safeguarding the voting rights of POCs and poor people in his state because Republicans aren’t on board with it.
The same Republicans who he just chided for filibustering the January 6 commission vote.
Speaking of the filibuster, he wants to preserve it as if it were some legitimate protection against tyranny by the minority instead it being the chief obstructionist tool, especially for White Supremacists.
Manchin may see himself as some modern-day “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” railing against partisanship, but in truth, he is preventing the Republic from functioning as it should.
Republicans had no qualms about cramming a Supreme Court justice down the country’s throat before the new president could take office.
They didn’t hesitate to investigate Benghazi, even though their findings didn’t amount to much.
They are busy trying to tell America that January 6 was a case of touristy hijinks, and not a violent attempt at overthrowing our government.
But these are the people that Joe Manchin are so desperate to please?
With party members like Manchin, the Democrats don’t need the Republicans.
Their worst enemy is in the home camp.
