No, Buddy, No
Buddy Carter of my home state of Georgia is the latest regime soldier asking for an increased ICE presence.
Unsurprisingly, Carter is asking for this on behalf of our fair capital city of Atlanta.
Carter, a congressman representing coastal areas, sent a letter to acting ICE Administrator Todd Lyons and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
The letter said there was “urgent need for an enhanced ICE presence in Atlanta,” and additional federal agents would “protect citizens against record levels of illegal immigrants” and “confront safety concerns.”
He said,
“Residents are clamoring for additional federal support, which would greatly assist state and local partners in maintaining public safety and ensuring that immigration laws are properly upheld.”
And
“Increasing enforcement presence would help deter unlawful entry, disrupt illegal networks, and uphold the rule of law. A stronger federal role would also help prevent the very real public safety risks that criminals pose and restore confidence in the system designed to keep us safe.”
Atlanta mayor Andre Dickens is not in favor of increased presence of federal stormtroopers:
“We don’t want to see troops or ICE, or anything taking any kind of stronghold or show of force in the City of Atlanta. Homicides are down 44%. Crime is way down. People feel the safety.”
Mayor Dickens has made crime fighting a priority in his administration because he knew this day was coming.
Carter, no relation to our late, great former president and international statesman Jimmy Carter, is running for Jon Ossoff’s Senate seat.
This is his shamelessly transparent attempt to gain votes among the red rural cities outside of Atlanta.
There’s no clamor from citizens demanding federal protection.
We don’t have an immigration problem.
We have a full-of-crap Republican trying to cater to MAGA voters and their fearless orange leader problem.
ICE’s Gestapo tactics are mostly mistreating legal US citizens whose only issue is being the wrong color.
Atlanta doesn’t want or need ICE.
I can tell you a few things that Atlanta and the state of Georgia need.
We need fair and equitable voting laws that don’t include ID requirements.
We need industry and investment. We need to replace the shuttered Hyundai plant, a plant that is now closed because ICE drove off legal South Korean workers who were shackled and deprived of due process before they were returned home, a move that’s led to an international lawsuit.
We need a governor who isn’t a MAGA stooge. Brian Kemp may not have found the president the extra votes he was looking for in 2020, but he’s still a lap dog for him and his White Supremacist base.
We need lots of things.
None of them include jackbooted thugs more interested in being domestic terrorists than preserving law and order.
Buddy Carter is another knuckle-dragging reactionary who wants to return America to a 1950’s Leave It to Beaver episode where women don’t work outside the home but cook dinner wearing haute couture and cultured pearls.
A Whiter than White America.
We don’t need ICE, and I’m damn sure we don’t need Buddy Carter in Congress.
