Nikki Haley and the GOP Groveling Band
The former presidential candidate can't make up her mind about you know who.
Ronald Reagan famously created the 11th Commandment, which decreed, “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.”
While that pronouncement has been followed to various degrees over the years, the slavish devotion the party lavishes on the former president has passed obsession and cemented itself as mania.
There are numerous examples of this obsequiousness, but the most unfortunate one is Nikki Haley.
Haley has been consistently inconsistent in her public opinions of the rioter-in-chief.
A history of public comments about him:
· June 2016 – In a response to an attack on her by him, she responded, “Bless Your Heart.”
· During the 2016 presidential election, she said of him, “I will not stop until we fight a man that chooses not to disavow the KKK. That is not a part of our party. That's not who we want as president. We will not allow that in our country.”
· October 2016 – She said she “wasn’t a fan” of his, but endorsed him, saying she would vote for him because he was "the best person based on the policies and dealing with things like Obamacare.”
· December 2018 – Haley resigned from being the UN Ambassador and said that the president was “a friend,” and that she was “not going to apologize” for serving in his administration.
· January 2021 – After the January 6 riot, Haley said in an interview, "We need to acknowledge he let us down. He went down a path he shouldn't have, and we shouldn't have followed him, and we shouldn't have listened to him. And we can't let that ever happen again.”
· February 2021– When asked if he was a friend, Haley replied, “Friend is a loose term.”
· February 2021 – Haley said, “Most of (his) major policies were outstanding and made America stronger, safer and more prosperous. Many of his actions since the election were wrong and will be judged harshly by history...I will gladly defend the bulk of the Trump record and his determination to shake up the corrupt status quo in Washington.”
· March 2021 – Referring to how the former president refused to protect Vice President Pence, she said, "When I tell you I'm angry, it's an understatement.”
· September 2023 – Appearing on Face the Nation, while Haley said she would support the Republican nominee, she added that American voters "are not going to vote for a convicted criminal.”
· 2024 Presidential Campaign – Haley said that the former president was “unhinged,” and “not qualified to be the president of the United States of America.”
· May 22, 2024 – Haley endorsed the former president and said she would vote for him
How can anyone believe Republicans like Haley when they take turns repudiating him, then groveling at his feet.
The party that used to pride itself on principles and ethics continues to rapidly descend towards irrelevance.
If anyone ever updates John F. Kennedy’s book Profiles in Courage, which highlighted brave moments of American politicians, Nikki Haley and her ilk won’t rate a mention.
However, if someone authors a book entitled Profiles in Cowardice, she could take up the entire book.
