Texas Congressmen Louie Gohmert assures us that Republicans care about gun violence.
During a Judiciary House Committee meeting on gun violence, Gohmert became incensed by Democratic criticism of Republican inaction on the issue.
He said:
“We care about people. We care about their lives, and lives have been so trivialized. "We care deeply. How dare you, how dare you, you arrogant people! Attributing murder to those of us that want to do things to stop it.”
Gohmert cares so much that he has voted against two bills that promoted enhanced background checks.
The same stance shared by many of his party colleagues.
Gohmert continued
“…we've seen what your ideas do, they create more murder."
Which ideas?
Background checks?
Waiting periods?
A total assault weapons ban?
The Committee was discussing a bill that would raise the purchase age of semiautomatic rifles from 18 to 21, restrict high-capacity ammunition magazines, and require existing bump stocks to be registered.
If Louie Gohmert really wants to demonstrate his compassion, he will support this bill, instead of blaming violence in Democratic-led cities.
Mentally disturbed people with AR-15s aren’t moved by politics unless it is politics like Gohmert’s.
They tend be motivated by White Supremacy.
Anger.
Hatred.
Bitterness.
And all this rage compels them to buy weapons that shouldn’t be available to them.
Allows them to murder the elderly in Buffalo and children in Uvalde.
Mr. Gohmert, your heart would be easier to spot if you and your party helped to pass common sense, responsible gun safety laws.
But your thoughts are with the NRA.
And your prayers are that we will become complacent and forget your dereliction of duty.
Forget your inaction.
Forget your invective against gun control.
Forget that your Senate colleagues are sitting on a bill that would help fix the problem.
But please continue to assure us that you have a heart.
If you do have a heart, you also have blood on your hands.
The blood of the elderly.
The blood of children.
