One hundred years ago, the prosperous Black middle class of Tulsa, Oklahoma was obliterated under pretense of a race riot.
But it wasn’t a race riot.
It was a massacre perpetrated as self-defense.
It was genocide masquerading as self-preservation.
It was an act of White Supremacy packaged as law and order.
Almost five months ago, a group of “concerned citizens” debased the US Capitol, under the guise of protesting the supposedly stolen election of Joe Biden from the former president.
It was a riot perpetrated as protest.
It was anarchy veiled as a demonstration.
It was an act of White Supremacy packaged as Americans airing their grievances when it was an attempted coup d’etat aimed at subverting our republic, aided and abetted by standing members of Congress, and egged on by the closest thing we’ve ever had to a dictator.
One hundred years ago, White Supremacists lashed out at Black America in the Southwest.
One hundred years later, White Supremacists lashed out at America in our nation’s capitol.
One hundred years from now, should we still be here, where will White Supremacists strike, and who will be their target?
And more importantly, if we don’t defend our nation and its laws and institutions from them,
Will they have a reason to incite a rebellion,
Or will we need to rebel against them?
