Deep in the Heart of Darkness
Add Robb Elementary School to the list of American mass shootings.
Once again, a disturbed person has used firearms to take innocent lives.
Once again, people will think thoughts and pray prayers.
The question is, what else will we do?
No one, no one can say we’re doing everything we can to make this stop.
Fourteen elementary school children and one teacher are dead in Texas.
Texas, where guns are as plentiful as yellow roses,
And perhaps more so.
Some will argue that we need “common sense” gun control.
What kind of common sense allows kids to be murdered, two days before the end of school?
These kids and that teacher won’t enjoy their summer.
They won’t laugh and play in the sun.
They won’t eat ice cream, play video games, or go to the movies.
No more vacations, no more laughter,
But for those who are left,
Lots of tears.
This is madness.
There is no rhyme or reason for killing children.
No justification for continuing to believe that “people kill people”
When days like this happen because people are killing people with guns.
They aren’t throwing knives.
They aren’t talking people to death.
People are dying.
Kids are dying.
Because people are killing people with guns.
Mostly with guns that don’t belong in civilian hands.
If you aren’t law enforcement or the military,
You don’t need an AR-15 to defend your home.
You don’t need an assault rifle for personal protection.
Columbine, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, Marjory Stoneman Douglas,
And now Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
How many more names will be etched in infamy?
How many more lives will be lost to preventable violence?
How many children, elderly people, Black people, all kinds of people
Won’t come home because someone was able to purchase a weapon
Not for defense, not for protection,
But for slaughter?
