Everyone knew how the presidential debate would turn out.
We knew that the former prosecutor would not freeze in the spotlight, would not have trouble debating the former president who is forever challenged by logic and reason.
It turned out as expected.
In today’s parlance, she “cooked” him.
Not lightly seared but charbroiled him over an open flame.
The Democratic Party has adopted the winning strategy of making the most of the former president’s own comments.
Last night was the apex moment.
One of the most classic lines coming from the debate was his response to being asked about his health care plan. He replied:
“I have the concepts of a plan.”
He’s only had his first candidacy, a four-year term, and four more years to devise one.
After contributing new language for not having a plan when you should have a plan, it’s time to move past his dumpster fire of a performance and focus on more important matters.
It’s not time for running victory laps because the race isn’t over.
The Republicans and their candidate are going to get more desperate.
Many of them were angered that the former president repeated the party’s own lie that illegal immigrants are eating house pets.
They start a vicious rumor and who got caught up in the netting?
Their own candidate.
More vicious rumors are coming.
More lies, more excuses, more attempts to befuddle the electorate.
Democratic voters must double-check their voter registration.
They must contribute to and work for party campaigns at every government level.
They must not grow overconfident and complacent.
2016 looked like a sure victory.
This must not be repeated in 2024.
The stakes are astronomically higher.
We can laugh and joke about their buffoonish candidate.
But people laughed at Hitler too.
