Cheney's Ouster Another Sign of the Republican Apocalypse
The Nazification of the GOP is happening in reverse
Liz Cheney’s removal as House Conference Chair is the latest step in the continuing de-evolution of the Republican Party.
Cheney has steadfastly refused to go along with the rancid “Stop the Steal” narrative, and has been summarily punished for speaking the truth.
Ronald Reagan must be breakdancing in his grave. The 11th Commandment he popularized “that shall not speak ill of any fellow Republican” has been violated forcefully in the last few months, but never so capriciously.
A former president who lost reelection, one who was not previously a politician of any stripe, has browbeaten and enforced kowtowing his own party into submission.
Think about that for a moment. He’s never been a senator, congressperson, or governor. Never held a cabinet position. Never been a major political advisor.
Yet, due to a cult of personality not seen since Hitler, Mussolini, or Mao, he has taken full control over a party even though there is zero, I repeat zero chance that he will ever hold office again.
He may bellow and boast of running again in 2024, but it is highly unlikely that he will ever be considered a viable candidate for anything other than a jail cell or a straight jacket.
Trump is ruling the Republican Party by fear and intimidation because he still has the misguided love of millions of conspiracy-addled nativists. But one day soon, they will have either tired of him, have a new object of deification, or will finally be convinced that the Emperor doesn’t and never had clothing.
Instead of consolidating a base from which to rule from political office, he is consolidating a base so he can say “you’re hired” or “you’re fired” to party hopefuls. He wants to be an autocrat even though he handed the White House and Congress to the Democrats on a silver platter.
He has ruined the Party, but the Party, rather than consign him to the political dung heap which he deserves, continues to beg and plead with him saying
“Thank you sir, may I have another?”
Before the GOP realizes how much it has been in an abusive relationship, divorcing the abuser may occur to late to save the abused from everlasting ruin.
