And Justice for None
The family of White January 6 terrorist Ashli Babbitt is receiving almost $5 million to settle a so-called wrongful death lawsuit, despite the fact she was rioting in the US Capitol.
Meanwhile, the President’s Justice Department is dismissing government lawsuits filed against police departments whose officers committed extrajudicial killings.
This includes Minneapolis, where George Floyd was murdered.
It includes Louisville, where Breonna Taylor was murdered.
The President’s appointee, Harmeet Dhillon, explained the ending of the lawsuits by saying they
“went far beyond the Biden administration’s accusations of unconstitutional conduct” and “would have imposed years of micromanagement of local police departments by federal courts and expensive independent monitors, and potentially hundreds of millions of dollars of compliance costs, without a legally or factually adequate basis for doing so.”
She continued:
“Overbroad police consent decrees divest local control of policing from communities where it belongs, turning that power over to unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats, often with an anti-police agenda. Today, we are ending the Biden Civil Rights Division’s failed experiment of handcuffing local leaders and police departments with factually unjustified consent decrees.”
The same administration that has accused the Biden administration of having “unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats” exercising power over police departments has decided the family of a terrorist lawfully killed by police was due millions of dollars.
It is not happenstance that Babbitt was White and terrorizing on behalf of the president, and Floyd, Taylor, and other unlawful police shootings were Black.
True to its racist core, this administration is treating White criminals as if they were innocent but treating innocent Black people like felons.
The famous symbol of Lady Justice is blindfolded and carries a sword in one hand and scales in the other hand.
For Ashli Babbitt’s family and for the other White January 6 rioters who have been freed from jail and pardoned, Lady Justice is wearing a blindfold but has hidden her scales and sword.
For George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many other Black and Brown people killed by the police, Lady Justice has removed her blindfold, thrown away her scales, and her sword is dripping with the blood of innocents.
Her robe is bloodstained.
Her hair is soaked in blood.
Her face is blood smeared.
Her lips are red from drinking the blood of the innocent.
The embodiment of fairness and impartiality has turned into a biased beast reeking of favoritism and destroyer of Black and Brown lives.
The sad part is that she has always appeared this way to People of Color.
Many White people are seeing her true visage for the first time.
Lady Justice in America has never been pristine.
She has never been impartial.
She will continue to be caked in the blood of innocents.
She represents our legal system.
She represents America.
Bloody and savage.
Unbalanced and prejudiced.
So sad.
