After the upheaval and turmoil of recent months, there are many who believe that we can reason with MAGA nation, and love and understanding will prevail.
We can’t reason with them.
I see social media posts that sound like Rodney King’s “Can’t we just all get along?” worrying that we must choose our words carefully
We can’t mince words.
The state of the country didn’t devolve overnight, and it won’t be corrected overnight.
The president and his followers are beyond reason and logic.
When this is over and if we have enough of a country to rebuild, we can concern ourselves with debate tenor.
Now is not the time.
We exist in the same political climate that allowed a billionaire businessman to catalyze fear and hatred to win the presidency twice.
Neville Chamberlain learned the hard way with Hitler.
You don’t negotiate with fascists.
Attempting to reach compromise with the president and his followers is not only foolhardy, but also dangerous.
They don’t want compromise.
They are beyond reason.
They don’t want common ground.
They want to make America great again for White people in the name of fascism.
The people who voted for the president were voting to persecute the “other.”
They are getting more than they bargained for because the president’s administration is removing infrastructure and support services, destabilizing our economy, allying with enemies and neglecting our friends.
Some of his followers are becoming aware, but many will follow him to the abyss.
They are following a president who isn’t Catholic, but says he wants to be the new Pope.
They have aligned themselves with a president who believes he is above the law and ignoring the rulings of the Supreme Court.
We can’t expect them to make sense.
We must continue to agitate.
We must protest and speak out.
Our actions may not end the madness, but they are the only viable weapons at our disposal.
Thank you.
