Adam Toledo
We are in another dubious stretch of law enforcement malfeasance.
Once again, a person of color.
This time, in Chicago.
This time a 13-year old Mexican-American youngster.
This time, the victim was Adam Toledo.
Let me say straight away what I don’t want to hear.
I don’t want to hear that his parents are at fault because he was out at 2:30 in the morning.
I don’t want to hear that he was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I don’t want to hear that he shouldn’t have run from the police.
I don’t want to hear that someone had fired a gun and that a gun was found nearby.
I don’t want to hear about any of that?
Why?
Because too many White people are still living after arguing with the police, assaulting the police, and shooting at the police.
Adam Toledo had his hands raised. He wasn’t carrying a gun.
The bodycam video was very clear.
Another person of color is dead just because.
Just because White people don’t transfer their admirable restraint when it’s us.
Just because America’s police departments are riddled with racists, bigots, and thugs.
Just because we’re dangerous and at fault no matter what we do.
