No matter how hard he tries to appear patriotic, the former president can’t help but insult our military.
For all of his tough guy postering, when it comes to being respectful of the toughest and most courageous of us, he fails.
He referred to dead soldiers as “suckers.”
He provoked arguments with Gold Star families.
In reference to POWs, he said “I like people who weren’t captured, okay?”
He recently stated that the Presidential Medal of Freedom was more important that the Medal of Honor.
But this wasn’t enough.
He used Arlington National Cemetery for a cheesy, disrespectful photo-op, broke cemetery rules, and allowed one of his staffers to assault a cemetery official.
He attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and visited a gravestone in Section 60 of the cemetery where many of the US service members killed in Afghanistan and Iran are laid to rest.
At the gravestone, he took a photo that captured him smiling and giving a thumbs-up.
So much for being presidential.
The former president didn’t have permission for his photo-op at the cemetery.
The cemetery released a statement that one, confirmed that there was an “incident” between one of his staffers and a cemetery official, and reiterated that there are clear rules prohibiting the use of the cemetery for political campaigning:
“Federal law prohibits political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries, to include photographers, content creators or any other persons attending for purposes, or in direct support of a partisan political candidate’s campaign. Arlington National Cemetery reinforced and widely shared this law and its prohibitions with all participants.”
He had no business taking photos for his campaign, even though he was invited by family members of fallen soldiers.
He respects no one, and that includes our honored dead.
He flouts rules as if they don’t apply to him, and his minions continue to do his bidding, even to the point of carrying out physical and verbal abuse.
How can the Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces be someone who grossly disrespects the same Armed Forces that protect our country with their lives.
How can it be?
The answer is that it can’t and must not.
